PHILIPPINE RED CROSS RESPONDS TO PASSENGERS OF VESSEL THAT CAUGHT FIRE IN BATANGAS PORT

Volunteers and staff of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Batangas Chapter responded to passengers of a passenger vessel that caught fire in Batangas Port last night. Fire broke at 5:40 pm at Starlite MV Asia Pacific while it was docking at Batangas Port.

The vessel, which originated from Calapan, Oriental Mindoro, had 87 passengers, including the crew.

The PRC sent a total of 30 personnel, who provided emergency medical care, facilitated restoration of family links, and distributed T-shirts and slippers.

Three individuals were given emergency medical treatment while 15 had their blood pressure taken.

The PRC’s welfare team provided free use of phones to those who wanted to contact their families.

Ranz Hotel and Traveller’s Inn, Traveler’s Hotel, and Mariner’s Inn served as evacuation shelters.

Three PRC ambulance units and one mobile clinic were mobilized for the response.

The PRC team is ready to provide hot meals and psychological first aid to the passengers today.
