Three alleged New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed in an encounter Tuesday, Sept. 20, with Army soldiers in General Nakar town in Quezon province, a police report said Wednesday.

The Quezon police said patrolling soldiers led by one First Lieutenant Genosolanggo from the Army’s 1st Infantry Battalion, encountered at 1:30 p.m. an undetermined number of armed communist guerrillas in the village of Pagsangahan in the Sierra Madre mountain ranges.

After a fierce exchange of gunfires, the rebels withdrew, leaving behind the bodies of their slain male comrades, who were unidentified in the report.

The soldiers reportedly recovered two M16 rifles, one R4 carbine and one M203 grenade launcher at the encounter site.

Troops have been deployed to pursue the rebels.
